What challenges brought App State to look for a new point-of-sale solution for higher education?

Appalachian State University is a public university located in Boone, North Carolina. The university has over 21,200 enrolled students.  

App State decided to switch to a new vendor because it was seeking a strategic partner who could offer better support. They found their previous POS system to be disorganized and chaotic, with inconsistent item labeling, and nothing had been deleted for the past 15-20 years. They required a partner to guide them and assist with best practices for maintaining and using its system. 

Nikki Cress stated, "it was a mess... [this led us to move] to Cloud POS, gave us a reset button, and I think that is going to be the most important and significant change." 

 

Why'd Appalachian State University choose Transact Campus Commerce?

The App State team upgraded to Transact Cloud POS with Transact Platinum+ level support. App State implemented changes to improve service for students who primarily use mobile devices and increase staff efficiency. The new solution also integrates with their Transact TSE platform. Additionally, they can now benefit from personalized concierge-level assistance. 

 

Transact Cloud POS, a cloud-native point-of-sale (POS) system built for higher education 

App State wanted Cloud POS to integrate easily with its existing admin tools and student programs. Students, including the student body president, have given positive feedback about the Transact Kiosks installed in their dining areas. The University reported that the coffee shop's kiosk is popular among students because they can easily place their orders and it reduces wait times in line.

Appalachian State University wanted more campus support services and guidance from their previous vendor, which they needed to receive. They recognize the challenges higher education institutions face today, including budget cuts, high inflation, and reduced enrollment.
