Challenges

University of the Pacific, California’s first university, needed the ability to accept mobile payments while ensuring data and device security. The use of secured laptops and cellular transmission to process debit/credit card payments was inefficient, and while mobile payment systems did exist, they were not enterprise-ready.

Solution

To resolve these inefficiencies, the University of the Pacific deployed Mobile Payments for the iPad as a cellular-only beta program. Upon a successful limited release, the solution was fully integrated with the university’s ERP system and subsequently rolled out to the entire school. Now, student organizations or departments can use select iPads as mobile cash registers, a convenience appreciated by both students and administration.
